The weekend of July 15, 16, and 17, my ittty bitty hometown celebrated its 100th year. My sister Tony, and Larus and Leah were able to make it back for the celebration with some extra time just to spend with us.
It has been a long time since they have visited so it was so great to see them. As we were getting ready for their visit. The kids tried to remember something about their previous visit. They remember Larus lifting them to the ceiling, and Leah hiding in the bath tub for hide and seek. The few days before the centennial we were able to get a few activities in, like Andrew's soccer game, the zoo, the Heritage Center, and the top of the capitol. Logan was able to spend some extra time with us too. He always makes events more exciting.
On Friday we headed to Robinson to the School Reunion portion of the centennial complete with a meal, style show, kids carnival, class parade, and street dance.
Saturday began with a parade. Logan and Andrew were pretty overzealous about getting candy and boy did they get candy. For dinner we ate with cousins on my dad's side, and for the afternoon we visited and watched the truck pull. The big event in the evening was an amazing fireworks display and a sunrise dance. The town was famous for its sunrise dance, and the celebration would not be complete with out one. A few of us, not me though, saw sunrise that morning.
Despite the weather being excruciatingly hot, we all had a good time. Its amazing how many people you can visit with in a short amount of time. The friendships and memories you can build growing up in a small town are unmeasurable. Unfortunately the small towns that dot North Dakota are dwindling and a way of life is gone but not forgotten.
